PMMC Dep. MD jailed for Contempt

An Accra High court has sentenced the Deputy Managing Director in charge of Finance and Administration of the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC), DR Aristotle Ktey, to a one -month imprisonment for contempt of court.

He was found guilty of various wrongful acts he committed while an application was for injunction was pending at the High Court, including hiding the office keys of the Managing Director (MD), Mr Peter Boachie, thereby preventing the MD from resuming work after his annual leave.

Also when the case was called for hearing, the deputy managing director blatantly walked out of the court without putting up any defence.

In the same suite, the application for injunction sought by the managing director was granted, restraining the board and its chairman, Mr Stephen Adufour , from removing him from office.

" The board and the Chairman has no power to take that decision. This is because the term of the board has expired and the chairman had not obtained the authority of the shareholders to act beyond its powers," it said.

The court, therefore, ordered the respondents to observe the status quo and not to interfere with the plaintiffs work till the final determination of the case.
